Duane Waliser, Ph.D., JPL. Dr. Waliser is a Principal Scientist in the Water and Carbon Cycles Group, Earth Sciences Section at JPL. On February 1, 2007, Dr. Waliser became JIFRESSE’s first Fellow. He holds an appointment as an Adjunct Professor at the UCLA Atmospheric and Oceanic Science department. Dr. Waliser received his B.S. in Physics from Oregon State University in 1985. His Ph.D. is in the field of Physical Oceanography from the Scripps Institute of Oceanography, UCSD (1992). From 1992-93, Dr. Waliser was a Postdoctoral Associate at the UCLA Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences followed by an academic career from 1993-2004 as first an Assistant and then Associate Professor at the Institute for Terrestrial and Planetary Atmospheres, Marine Science Research Center at the State University of New York, Stony Brook. Dr. Waliser joined the Jet Propulsion Laboratory as a Principal Scientist in 2004, and holds a Visiting Associate Faculty appointment in Geological and Planetary Sciences at the California Institute of Technology. Dr. Waliser’s research expertise is in intraseasonal variability, climate dynamics, observational data assessment and analysis, and climate and weather model evaluation. Stanley P. Sander, Ph.D., JPL. Dr. Sander is a Senior Research Scientist who supervises the Laboratory Studies and Modeling Group, Earth Sciences and Technology Division at JPL. JIFRESSE’s Governing Board approved Dr. Sander’s Fellow appointment on March 31, 2008. In addition, Dr. Sander holds a Visiting Researcher appointment at JIFRESSE with Visiting Associate appointments in Planetary Science and Chemical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology. He earned his B.A. degree in Physics in 1974 from Pomona College and a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering Science in 1980 from the California Institute of Technology. Dr. Sander began his JPL career in 1987, and since then has mentored numerous postdoctoral associates, graduate and undergraduate students. Most recently, Dr. Sander is one of the lead scientists involved with construction and installation of a multi-axis DOAS system that will be used to map pollutants in the Los Angeles area. The DOAS system is located at the JPL Mt. Wilson Observatory Table Mountain Facility.
